Now that winter is here it seems as though everyone is coming down with a cold

. Everyone has to put up with them at some point and because they are so easily passed around, once one person has a cold it is likely those they come into contact with on a regular basis will catch it as well. People who work in a busy office or university students who will be around thousands of new individuals at the beginning of the new term could be among those who are most likely to come down with a cold.

Although there is no cure for the common cold due to the complicated and very varied nature of the virus, there are ways of treating the symptoms so that people can make themselves a little more comfortable when they are suffering.

The products people use can depend on the severity of their symptoms and the help they feel they need the most. While some people may develop a cough and sore throat, others may have a blocked nose. In some people, this affects their sinuses and they feel a dull ache where the systems connecting their nose, ears and throat are blocked, while other people have a headache that needs to be treated.

One of the most important things people should do if they have a cold is to drinks lots of fluid to keep themselves hydrated. Being dehydrated can cause painful headaches so drinking plenty of water will help to prevent this. Alcohol should be avoided when people have a cold as this can cause dehydration.

If sufferers are experiencing a great deal of congestion that is causing them discomfort they should try decongesting nasal sprays. These are specially designed to help unblock the nose and allow people to breath with greater ease. These can be purchased from most pharmacies and there are a range of different products available so consumers can get the solutions they need.

Pain relief tablets can be used to treat some of the symptoms of a cold. Although they will not help to fight the virus, they can make sufferers feel more comfortable, particularly if they have a bad headache.

Alternatively, if people find their cold develops into flu, which is much more serious, they can purchase special flu capsules that help to relieve several of the symptoms, including aches and pains, blocked sinuses, headaches, fatigue and sore throats.
