Tips For Finding Great Gifts For Men

Finding great gifts for men is no easy quest

Finding great gifts for men is no easy quest. They do not 'do' flowers, chocolate is seen as too feminine and whilst some like wine (you cannot exactly wrap up a six pack, now can you?); alcohol is hardly something that can be classed as a 'great' gift.

Indeed, when it comes to finding great gifts for men, you may find yourself feeling a bit mystified and also a bit guilty. Presumably, you are buying a gift for someone who is close to you in your life, so surely you should 'know' what to get them? Honestly, do not blame yourself. Why do you think so many men receive socks as gifts? Because they are darn near impossible to shop for! However, help is at hand! Read on for some top tips for finding great gifts for men.

1) Check out the stuff he already owns. If your man has a plethora of football paraphernalia, a garage full of golf gear, or a shelf full of Star Wars stuff, then you at least have guidelines for interest areas. If he is a minimalist man and does not 'do' stuff (you would be surprised how many men are like this!), then you can always check out his computer history or email. Technically, it is not 'snooping' because you just want inspiration for a gift.... well, that is our excuse anyway!

2) Number two on our list of top tips for finding great gifts for men, is 'sports'. There is no denying it, practically all men like sports. If not actually participating in a sport, then at the very least, watching it. However, before you settle on sofa spectator sports fanatic gifts, consider if the man in your life is into participating in any sports (does toilet golf, count?).

If he is an active kinda guy, then consider an Experience Day gift. These gifts usually include a taster sessions, so he could try his hand at sky diving, or a helicopter ride, or even a few laps on a F1 Track! All of which amount to pretty great gifts!

3) If you are really stuck, talk to his mates. Ask them if there is anything he says he would like to do, or if he says he would like to go (depending on his friends you may wish to maybe add a disclaimer to the question... such as "anywhere he would like to go, that I would want to accompany him?"!)

4) For those who are seriously desperate and completely lacking in ideas for buying gifts for men in their lives talk to his Mother! Seriously, unless you are worried it will make you look like an incompetent girlfriend/wife, then ask his mummy is there is anything he has always wanted (green super tank remote control car, that he did not get for his tenth birthday, resulting in him being scarred for life... stop me if you have heard that one before!).Seriously, think how much more he will love you if you fulfill his childhood/adolescent fantasies!

5) If your man is all agog about alcohol, (no and for the last time wrapping up a six pack of beer is not a 'great gift', even for a man!), consider a wine tasting event, or, if he is a man of spirit, a tour of a whiskey distillery, or for the men who are firmly in the 'pint, please love' category, a tour of a brewery. It makes ideal gifts for men and since it would be unfair of him to go without you, it will be a great gift for you too!

6) You cannot believe we left it so far down the list! Neither can us! That is right, 'gadgets'. Men love them. As long as it has batteries and an instruction manual he can ignore, preferably makes a beeping noise when he turns it on, has some sort of number display that counts down and down and a flashing LCD display, then you are most certainly on to a winner!

7) Get something personalised for him. People love to have a sense of ownership and nothing says "I put effort and thought into this gift" more so than something personalised. Be it their name on a golf club, a personalised calendar, or even a coffee cup with their mug on it, it will show that you care and that you tried! (Extra top tip! If you do not think he would like his face, what about his avatar or some sort of slogan from his favourite console game?).

There we have the conclusive list of top tips for great gifts for men. Failing this, you do know the way to the beer aisle, right?
