Tips For Getting A Dog From Dog Breeders

One thing you must know before you bring home a puppy is they are fast learners

. That makes an early training paramount prior to housebreaking a puppy, which is exposing the puppies to constructive socialization and toilet-training. Dog breeders with a fair amount of knowledge on the canine psychology will know that and whether the person abides by the rule or not sets the mark for him or her.

Accepting a pup from a dog shelter is an act of generosity in a distress situation. Similarly, the family member or a friend is typically frantic to find homes for an entire litter. Pet shops and other retailers are not specialists, have little knowledge of the breed and usually lack specific knowledge of the individual pup.

By contrast, buying a dog from a breeder has several advantages. A pedigree dog is more predictable across a whole range of factors such as personality, dimensions, and fur quality. In other words, buying a pedigree pure bred puppy leaves less to chance. There are almost 200 separate dog breeds usually recognized by dog authorities making it likely there is a breed that meets the preferences of any prospective pup owner.

To be classified as a pedigree dog, the animal must meet several criteria such as having documented parentage, both parents must be of the same breed, that breed must be recognized by authorities, the breeder must be registered with authorities, the dog parents must also be registered with authorities, and the pup must have a pedigree line tracing back at least three generations.

The Internet has made it easy to connect with canine breeders. Dog breeder directories have been created online in many countries across the globe. For each breeder, the directories will provide details of their breeding philosophy, size of kennel, full contact details, and so on.

Dog breeders are keen to sign themselves onto these directories as a means of self-promotion. The directories usually allow users to identify individual breeders by breed. Most directories will also have a Puppy Listings tab. It cannot get much easier than that.
