Take the time to research roads and requirements - Do not just jump into a car or a four-wheel drive with no particular destination in mind. Take the time to plan out a mapped course and check with local authorities about the conditions of the roads you want to explore. Keep in mind that unpaved highways can take much more time to navigate than roads you might be used to. Build in extra time for transit.

Pack wisely - The beauty of the Australian Outback is found in its remoteness. In some areas, you can drive for hours without seeing another human being.
