Tips For Installing A Faucet

Fixing a new faucet is not a very difficult task to perform

. A homeowner with sufficient plumbing knowledge can do this installation in just one or two hour. The tools required for the installation of a faucet are: pair of large channel lock pliers and a crescent wrench.

First step for installing a faucet is to cut down the water supply. For this, you need to turn off the valve under the sink. To make sure that water is no more running through the faucet, turn on the faucet.

Next disconnect the flexible supply lines from the valves attached to the hot and cold supply pipes. After disconnecting the flexible supply lines, remove the old faucet mounting nuts that secure the faucet to the sink.

Now take away the stopper pull rod and stopper drain bracket assembly to the drain tail pipe. After this remove the J-Trap drain assembly from the sink tail pipe so that the faucet can be easily removed from the sink. Once the old faucet is removed, clean the sink area with the help of rag and putty knife.

Next visit your local home improvement store and find a replacement faucet with the same spacing between the hot and cold threaded tail pieces of your old faucet. Also pick up two flexible replacement supply lines.

Connect the new flexible supply lines to the threaded tail pieces of your new faucet. Next install the new faucet into the mounting holes on your sink. Then secure the faucet to the sink using the mounting plates or nuts that came with the new faucet. Attach the other end of the flexible supply lines to the valves on the hot and cold supply pipes. Next, attach the new tail pipe to the sink drain.

Now install a new drain/stopper assembly that came with the new faucet into the sink basin. Again connect the J-Trap drain assembly to the drain tail pipe and start back the supply line valves.

The installation is now complete. You just need to check the connections. For this, start the faucet and check all the connections for any leak. If any of the connection is leaking then turn off the water supply and tight those connections.
