Tips For Preventing Soil From Moss Infestation And Weed Sprouting

Adding a fine layer of good quality soil to the lawn is called adding top dressing to the lawn

. A fine layer of sand, peat and a mixture of loam or a leaf mould, rotted farmyard manure and dried sludge is mixed to add a fine layer on the top layer of soil in the lawn. This can be preferably done in autumn or spring. Raised bed garden soil preparation is important to improve the quality of the soil so that plants and shrubs can grow well.

Preventing soil from moss infestation and weed sprouting:

The turf becomes denser and the grass is stimulated to produce new shoots. The lawn does not get infested with moss or sprouting weeds with a raised bed garden soil preparation. Surface of the soil gets leveled as the top dressing helps in filling out hollows in any. Average soil will require a suitable general mixture made up of a few parts of river sand, loam and granulated peat.

This is mixed thoroughly and then this mixture is put through a sieve. Once this is done this mix can be thoroughly applied evenly to the yard. With the help of a back of a rake called the lute and a stiff broom the mixture is worked thoroughly into the surface of the lawn. It is very important to work the mixture into the surface of the soil or else the grass may get smothered.

Different mixes for different types of soils:

The raised bed garden soil preparation can be done with different types of mixes. The mix should contain double the quantity of peal and should be almost half the quantity of the soil, especially when the lawn is on sandy soil. By adding this mix you will make the soil drought resistant and the sandy soil will be able to retain moisture in a better way. Composition of the mix will change a bit if your lawn has clayey soil.

The mix should contain around 4 parts of sand, 1 part peat and 2 parts loam as it will allow better drainage and also help the roots of the turf to grow well. Before adding the raised bed garden soil preparation try to aerate the lawn which means air channels have to be created in the lawn so that air can circulate freely around the roots of the grass. For doing this spikes can be put in and coring can be done as well.
