- Board them at a kennel. If you do not have a friend who can take your pet for a while, another option is to send them to a special pet kennel. These kennels, for both cats and dogs, offer food, shelter and care for your pets for a short time. However, it is very important that you choose a reputable and high quality kennel, so that your pet will not have to live in poor conditions. Do an inspection first, and check to see that the other animals there are happy and well cared for.

Remove All Signs of Your Pet

To further discourage any possible negative impressions that a home buyer might have about your pet living in the house, you can now commence eliminating all traces of their existence.

This includes having the cat hair and wet dog odours thoroughly cleaned out of your carpet, getting rid of the litter box, putting away food and water dishes, and sealing up doggy doors.
