Never be under staffed
This is one area that inexperienced caterers will pull back on and it can have devastating effects in the long term. People loath bad service! If it means that you bring someone in for the absolute minimum of time, do so, but don't under-staff whatever you do.
If you have extra staff at the function it can free you up to go and socialize and build more contacts. Nothing wrong with the caterer having a chat to a few key invitees and find out what they thought. But it is best to do it by talking to the host first and if necessary, ask for her permission to talk to a few guests.
Standard of Service
When planning the party catering always try to think of something different that you can add to the occasion. It could be a bunch of flowers for the hostess or a taxi to take them home, or anything that you think will make them happy. If you do it at the end of the evening all the better, so that they remember it as a parting gesture. It does not have to be expensive but a little something to show that you have their welfare at heart.
This little touch will make a lot of difference and will definitely be a swinger in getting you a lot of referrals.
