You can easily tell which portion of it is made for the front of your head simply by looking at the formation of the outer shell. On most helmets it is very obvious, but there are some styles where it may not be so apparent. Half helmets are sometimes a little more tricky to figure out, but the simplest way to do so is simply look inside it to find the tag which is always sewn into the back side.

So, once you've identified what side is the front, then you should always remember that that is the way you are supposed to wear it. Some riders might think it's funny to wear it backwards, but really it is a dangerous way to wear one especially since the strap that holds the helmet on your head will do no good in that position.

It's also important that you make sure you have the proper size for your head. Having a helmet that is too small will not be advantageous because you simply cannot get it on your head properly in order to get the most protection that it can provide. You also will not be able to strap it on properly with the strap. If your helmet is too small, consider purchasing a new one that is larger.

If the helmet is too large, then it will rattle around on your head and this will not be comfortable either. Plus, if you were to get in an accident, your head would not be fully supported by the padding that is found within it.

To make sure that you get the proper size when purchasing a helmet online, make sure you take accurate measurements of your head so that you can use the sizing charts that are available for determining the proper size for purchase. If you're shopping at a local biker shop, try the different sizes on to find the one that fit's the best.

When you have the proper size helmet for your head, you not only will be providing yourself with a more comfortable fitting piece of equipment, but you will also be keeping yourself safe.
