Tips On Building Pool Decks

Having a pool right outside your home is probably a dream for many people

. Imagine the joy of coming home from work on a hot day and jumping in the pool. For many people, this is a reality they get to enjoy every day. If you currently have a pool or are considering it as your next purchase, you'll definitely be in need of a pool deck.

Pool decks may seem like a very complicated project but with the right set of tools and a good set of directions, even a beginner will be able to build pool decks. Here are a few helpful hints to get you started on your DIY pool deck.

- Plan, plan and plan again! Put your deck design on paper along with the measurements so you know what you need.

- Visit your local city building inspector's office and check on codes and regulations for your area regarding decks, . You don't want to get started on your deck only to find out you've broken some local law and have to tear it down or get a fine. You may want to bring your plans with you so the inspector can look at them and inform you of any requirements they may have regarding height, spacing, joists, fasteners, etc. This could prove very helpful when you go shopping for your supplies.

- Most people use wood for their pool decks. If you choose wood, make sure it's pressure treated wood. Don't even think of using regular 2"X4" boards from the lumber company or you'll have a deck that's rotten in a couple of years. The extra you pay for pressure treated lumber will pay for itself in deck longevity.

- Get as much literature as you can if you're inexperienced in building. The internet is a wealth of information on building pool decks. If you feel you're over your head, hire a contractor but only after checking his references!
