Tips On Refilling A Butane Lighter

A lighter is essential to your enjoyment, whether you choose to smoke pipes

, cigars or even cigarettes. Ensuring that you have a quality lighter is important. However, you must also know how to refill that lighter when the fuel runs low. Obviously, the fuel you use in your lighter is of paramount importance. Without fuel, you have no fire. Therefore, it is important to know what to do when the time comes to replenish your fuel supply. Whether you have a wind resistant lighter, a Zippo or another type of refillable lighter, the means of refueling it is probably quite easy.

Lighter Fluid Models: If you own a Zippo or other type of lighter that uses traditional lighter fluid, rather than a wind resistant lighter, refilling it is pretty simple. To use a Zippo as an example, simply remove the insert from the lighter. You will see a rectangular (or other shape) piece of white material. This is the batting that absorbs the lighter fluid, providing it to the wick (which is above the batting). Simply wet this material with your lighter fluid until it is damp (not dripping) and then replace the insert within the exterior case. Make sure you clean off any residue from the lighter and your hands before striking.

Butane Lighters: If you have a wind resistant lighter or other model that makes use of butane, your refilling process is even simpler. Located on the bottom of the lighter should be a nipple or nub. Butane comes in pressurized canisters with a tip that corresponds to this nub in size and shape. Simply upend the butane canister and place the tip over the fueling port. Pressing down on the canister releases the pressurized butane into the lighter's reservoir. Continue holding down on the canister and you will feel the lighter become noticeably cooler. Remove the canister and check the sight glass to find out if the lighter is full.

Obviously, refueling your lighter is a simple process, whether you have a Zippo or a wind resistant lighter. However, you should still exercise great care when refilling it. Butane and lighter fluid are both highly flammable and can spray on your hands, clothing and the exterior of your lighter. If you are not careful, you can find yourself burned very quickly once you strike the lighter again. However, with a bit of caution, you can refuel in mere minutes.
