Tips On Staying Competitive And Maintaining Your Profit

With respect to efficiency, it is something you have to always work for

, trying to always be the best. If you are not getting better and making improvements, there will always be another competitor that soon will surpass your abilities. You have to find a way to remain competitive, while maintaining your revenue stream so that you continue to grow and prosper. You can always find ways to save money if you look hard enough.

This does not mean you should start cutting jobs and reducing the quality of the parts you are using. You want to maintain quality and not let it suffer to save a few bucks. After all, if you lower the quality, you can make a little extra income for a while, but eventually the business is going to lose market share and customers because of your inferior product. What is required is to make your business lean.

Being lean is not about cutting corners and impacting the important parts of the process, but finding a better way to do the job with less material, less work and less time. We are looking for ways to better the process, but without sacrificing quality. That's why it's hard to do, is not as simple as deciding whether to use a cheaper part of China. We are looking at each individual process and attempting to determine where the greatest opportunity for improvement lies. We are looking at production and trying to find out what costs less and is more efficient.

Maybe instead of waiting for all one hundred pieces of a part to arrive before they are painted, and then painting them all together before they are moved onto to the next step, there is a more efficient way. What if all the pieces can be made and then painted individually, as part of an assembly line and workers can start the next part of the process, as each part leaves the paint booth, instead of having to wait for all of them to be completed.

You can save money by not having to store all of the parts as they wait to ship, by shipping them as they are completed. This also allows you to start selling them before they are all done. This is just one example of a way to begin to examine your processes differently. This approach can work in all aspects of a business. Be smarter with your resources and you do not have to spend so much for storage of all of the extra parts.
