Tips On Using Cedar To Light A Cigar

Lighting a cigar is a topic of hot debate among many different smokers

. Some smokers prefer to use matches. Others opt to make use of pipe lighters or butane lighters. Still others maintain that the only way to light a cigar without imparting any chemical taste is to use cedar strips for the job. How do you use cedar? Is it really better than using a lighter or matches? Actually, using cedar strips can be pretty easy and does offer freedom from the chemical taste you might find from other flame sources.

However, there are problems with using cedar to light your cigar. For instance, while pipe lighters are easily transported in a pocket, cedar strips do not lend themselves to easy travel. Imagine carrying a pocketful around with you all day and you can begin to imagine the problems caused. On the other hand, if you are at home, or another location and do not intend to travel, cedar strips can be excellent. Those who use cedar strips usually insist on lighting them with a wooden match, to ensure no chemical transference. Once the strip is lit, you simply use it as you would a match to light your cigar.

You will need to ensure that the cedar strip is burning well, as most cigars need a substantial width of flame to catch evenly. Of course, a simpler option is to use butane pipe lighters. Butane does not impart any chemical taste to your cigar and lighters are much easier to use (and to carry around, as well!). Obviously, not everyone will be satisfied with a lighter and some opt to make use of wooden matches. If you do this, allow the match to burn past the head before attempting to light your cigar. Match heads are made with sulfur, which will taint your cigar's taste and lessen your enjoyment.

If you don't fancy fighting with wooden matches or carrying around cedar strips in your back pocket, then pipe lighters are your best choice. You will find a wide range of lighter types, styles, designs and even burner configurations. As an example, you might opt for a double or triple flame lighter to help provide an even light for your cigar every time. As long as the pipe lighters you choose are fueled by butane, your smoking enjoyment is assured and you will not have any chemical taste.
