Tips That Will Help Get Candle Wax Out of the Carpet

Carpets and rugs give every home a friendly and attractive look. The only problem with them is cleaning and maintenance. One maintenance problem with carpets is the removal of candle wax from it. This is a growing concern for households that use candles. As candles are commonly used in many homes, it is very natural that there may be an incident of accidental dripping of wax from the candle onto your carpet. You can always hire a professional carpet cleaner or rent a steam cleaner, but these are more costly options than doing it yourself. Here are some tips for getting those stubborn dried wax particles out of the floor without damaging your carpet or rug.

Firstly you need to make an attempt to remove these wax particles yourself by scraping them carefully from the blanket with the help of a knife or even your finger nails. While doing so, be very careful not to hurt yourself or damage the carpet.

After the first attempt, the rest of the stuck wax can be removed by the following removal technique.

-Cover the rest of the wax stained areas of the carpet with a paper bag or a newspaper.

-Turn the heat setting of your iron on the lowest setting mode, and start to apply it gently over the paper covered area. A substitute to the iron could be a blow dryer, to be used in the same way.

-Due to the heat generated from the iron or hairdryer the pieces of wax stuck on the carpet will automatically begin to melt and stick on the paper placed over it.

-At this point you need to lift the paper and see if too much of wax has been attached on it, if that is the case then take the wax attached piece of paper off, and repeat the above procedure with a new piece of paper until every piece of wax attached on your carpet comes off completely.

If the candle wax turns out to be a colored wax then obviously your carpet will get stained. In that case you need to take a piece of dried cloth, dip it in a few drops of vinegar or alcohol, and rub it on the stained area of the carpet. In most cases you will be successful in removing the stain by following this procedure. As you had used alcohol to clean the carpet, you will need to wash the area properly with clean water in order to prevent the smell from spreading all over.

If you don't have alcohol available, there are other alternatives that work well. Get some laundry detergent or dish washing liquid and mix it with a little water. Use this solution to clean the stained area.

Finally you must dry the carpet by using your fan or turning on the air conditioner, as a wet carpet will always attract more dirt to it. Just be a little cautious while following each step mentioned and your carpet will look as good as new.
