If you have a bedbug problem, there are a couple of ways you can take care of it
. One good (but expensive) method is to hire an exterminator who will then take care of the problem for you. The other way is to destroy them yourself. This is not hard to do, but it requires close attention to detail and patience.
First, find all of the infested areas. Decide which areas of floor and which pieces of furniture are bug ridden; make sure you don't miss anything.
And yes, you have to be very thorough. Even a crack in the molding can be home to a dozen bedbugs.
Next comes the scrubbing and vacuuming. Every infested surface should be scrubbed thoroughly to get any embedded eggs out. Then you use the vacuum to suck up the eggs. After doing this, seal up the vacuum bag inside of another bag or container and get it very far from your home.
As for all of your clothes that have been infected, wash them in very hot water. This will kill the bedbugs and make them safe again. Anything else that cannot be washed should be sprayed with a pesticide designed for killing bedbugs.
Handle the pesticides with care; they are very poisonous when ingested, and any accidents be deadly. Find out if whatever brand you get needs to be vacuumed up after application; failing to do this could leave harmful poisons around your home.
The last thing you should do is get a mattress cover for your mattress. This is done to quarantine any bedbugs that may be left and keep them from spreading.
Any bug left inside the mattress will die six months to a year after being Sealed inside they will not be able to eat and will essentially starve to death. Always check your home for signs of bedbugs afterwards, to make sure that they are permanently gone.
