Before I tell you how I had so much success with this diet, I also have to tell you that I've failed (miserably sometimes) on almost every well known diet out there. So, there's nothing particularly special about meor my will power. But, I do think there were a few things that helped me and others who I dialog with stick to this diet and ultimately succeed. I willshare these thingswith you in this article.
Understand That The Doctors Who Developed Medifast Knew What They Were Doing: I've seen many people (myself included) try to over think this process. It's common to think that there is some "catch" or some vulnerable place where you are going to do something wrong. The truth is, this diet has been repeatedly studied and proven to work. It was developed by physicians and it works because, (although it doesn't taste like it), it is high in protein and puts your body in ketosis so that it burns it's own fat.
The diet is designed so that you eat six times per day. Five of the meals are from the company and are provided for you. You can chose from any of the over 70 choices (although you shouldn't have more than 2 bars per day.) Then, you are to eat one larger, substantial "lean and green" meal that is high quality protein and veggies.
Many people make the mistake of trying to cut corners ina fewways. First, I've seen people think that eating six times has got to be too much and they will cut out a few of the meals. Second, I'll also seen people skip the "lean and green" meal and just eat another Medifast meal in it's place thinking that they are saving calories.
Here's why both of these are a bad idea. It's important to eat frequently to keep your metabolism revving strong. Eating so often ensures this and helps you withhunger, blood sugar stability,and cravings. The foods are low in calories, full of vitamins, and high in protein, so eating your full five per day is not going to be harmful or allow for too many calories.
And, the lean and green is important because it's important to eat fresh foods. And, eventually, when you hit your target weight, you will then begin to transition to a more regular diet. It's important that you allow the "lean and green" to help you make good choices and learn how to prepare healthy food. Finally, if you are over doing it with drastic omissions, your likelihood of sticking to this diet will likely be compromised. Remember that this is a marathon and not a sprint. Use the diet as written and trust that it will work, even if it doesn't feel as drastic or difficult as you may have suspected.
Use The Tricks And Liberties That Work For You: I realize that I just told you to stick with the diet as planned, so what I am about to say will sound a little contradictory, but here goes. There are entire forums devoted to sharing recipes using the prepackaged Medifast meals. We use the pudding to make muffins and cookies. Almost daily, I add fat free whipped cream and fat free syrup to my shakes. I know folks who add seltzer water to the ready to drink shakes to try to get the "soda fountain" experience. I also add fat free salsa, sour cream, and cheese to the chili. Yes, this is adding a wee bit more calories to the foods. But, I am very careful to make sure my ingredients are low in fat and cards.And, taking these liberties helps me have much more variety and enthusiasm. My results are still there and these things have helped me stick with this diet for well over a year with out many problems.
Concentrate On Moving More: I am not going to tell you to exercise because I know that if I do, you're not going to like my message. I hate to exercise. That is a fact. But, without a doubt, the folks who lose the most weight on medifast (and keep it off) often just focus on adding in more movement to their day. This doesn't require you to go to the gym or become an athlete. You can great get results by power walking and / or by using exercise bands. And here's a secret. Often, you'll find that this movement improves both your mood and your results, so in the end you are motivated to keep it up, and eventually intensify what you're doing, even though you never madethe conscious or difficult decision to exercise.
