Tips To Make Your Resume Stand Out

Resumes are your ticket to getting that interview for the job you are applying for

. With this, it is wise to make a good impression right from the start and make your resume stand out from the rest.

Of course, you can create your own resume and make it more appealing to potential employers. You just have to keep in mind some things that you can do to make your resume stand out. It is important to pay close attention to how you draft your resume and how you present it. Most often, recruiters will not spend too long screening resumes, so it is important for it to catch attention.

- List the most relevant skills first. Strive to get attention with your first lines of your list of qualifications. Emphasize the most relevant skills and abilities you have. Your resume should give the idea that you are the best match to the job opening. You can also include some of your interest to give your potential employer an idea of your personality.

- Specify your skills and previous job responsibilities related to the job you are applying. General descriptions of your skills and previous responsibilities may not be that appealing. Make it more specific and emphasize them with numbers - if applicable. However, do not make the mistake of listing every job responsibility you had. Again, list only those that are related and relevant to the next job you are aiming for.

- Use bullet points to get attention. Formatting your resume with bullet points makes it easy to read. However, make sure also that each item you place in each bullet point is brief and not too long as this will also lose its readability. You can also make use of spaces to enhance the appeal of your resume.

- Choose your resume paper that does not blend with most resumes. Most often, resumes are printed in white, gray or cream colored paper. If you want to stand out, you can make use of a differently colored paper but retain professionalism at the same time. Of course, you have to avoid glaring colors.

- You can also use bold font, underlined texts to make your resume pleasing to the eyes. You can also use different fonts but you have to use them with care and make sure they do not mess up your resume. To make your resume stand out, you have to make it pleasing to read and at the same time with content matching up to what employers are looking for.

- Get rid of the objectives if it does not relay a very important detail to your job application. You can however make it a filler if you have lots of empty space but if you have more than information for your resume, you can get rid of it.

- Do not make your resume to long. Although long resumes may seemed to imply long experience, do not create more than two pages of resume, but do not also stuff everything in one page and make it look crowded. Use white spaces to your advantage.

Lastly, do not forget to create an excellent cover letter. Of course, to make your resume stand out, you have to have an impressive cover letter as well.
