Tips To Remember For Treadmill Stretching

Stretching is a crucial part of any type of workout

, whether it is indoors or outdoors. It loosens up your muscles, which makes it harder for your body to sustain a bad injury.

Many people remember to stretch before jogging outside or playing strenuous sports, but when it comes to exercising in a fitness center or at home, their minds go totally blank. They forget the important fact that stretching is vital no matter where you are moving your body.

Treadmills are no exception to the rule. Even though you won't be running over any treacherous terrain or putting your body through any serious work, it is still important to massage your muscles in this way before and after using this great piece of equipment.

Doing so will ensure that you don't sustain any injury on this piece of machinery. It will also help you get more out of your workout!

There are many different types of stretches that you can choose to do, but in this article we want to focus on the important things to remember, regardless of which one you end up doing. Whatever one you do, we want you to do it properly so that you can get the most benefit out of it.

The first thing to keep in mind is that stretching does not count as a warm-up. In order to have a proper workout, you need to walk or jog for a few minutes before.

Walking or jogging will loosen up your muscles and make them easier to move around. It's also good because it's safe to get your heart rate up before you run so you don't surprise your body.

Next, it's important to take your time when you are pushing and pulling your muscles. This will ensure that you get the best results.

Don't hurry it and go slow as you extend and retract your arms and legs. If you try to hurry it, you will be short-changing your workout because you won't be getting the best results out of your movement.

Also, make sure to breathe during your stretching! Many try to hold their breath during stretching routines, but this really does nothing beneficial.

While you go slowly when moving your arms and legs, you can breathe at a constant pace to make sure you are getting enough oxygen. You can even try deep breathing methods that can help you relax and help your muscles to relax.

The next couple tips are things that you should avoid when stretching. Doing them can actually cause injury to your muscles instead of helping them.

First, don't stretch your muscles until they hurt. Many will say "no pain, no gain". This could never be more untrue for a pre-workout stretch!

By moving until you feel excruciating pain only hinders your capacity for progress. If you do it right, you should only be feeling discomfort when you are positioning your arms and legs.

To do it right, go as far as you think you can go, and then stop just before you start to feel pain. This is the optimal point at which you should end up.

Hold that position for at least 20 to 30 seconds. That way you won't feel pain, but a slight burn that will be very beneficial to your muscles.

Another thing to avoid is bouncing to different positions. For example, you might be doing a leg stretch, and you bounce your arms forward until you touch your toes.

This actually doesn't help, but in some cases can lead to injury. Just remember to slowly extend your body parts until you feel that burn, and then gently hold it for the allotted amount of time.

After you do your treadmill workout, you don't have to do a post-exercise right away. It could be smart to take a hot bath or shower before you stretch your muscles again.

The hot water that will be applied to your body can help relax your muscles and make it easier for you to stretch again. It doesn't have to be right after the exercise, but it is crucial that you remember to stretch before and after the treadmill run!
