Tips To Select A Submersible Water Well Pump

A submersible water pump is used for wells that are relatively deep and require a

lot of pumping power as this pump can be submerged completely into the well below water level. A pump, a pressure switch and a tank are the basic component required for this system. Before planning to install a submersible water pump in your well, you must know the water requirement for daily use and the capacity of the well to produce enough water to meet daily requirements. Here are some tips to select a reliable submersible water well pump.

Well capacity

Before selecting a submersible water well pump, you might know the capacity of the well. This can be determined using a well drillers log or with the use of an older cleanout pump. To determine the flow rate, a cleanout pump must be operated for 30 minutes at free flow and allow it to fill a 5-gallon bucket and the time it takes to reach its capacity must be noted. Once all these data are collected, the following formula can be used to determine the GPM.

Gal of water (5)/seconds x 60 = GPM (gallons per minute). GPH (gallons per hour) = GPM x 60

Once the GPM value is determined, for low capacity wells 5 GPM series, for average-capacity wells 10 GPM series, for high-capacity wells 20 to 27 series and for very high-capacity wells 35 to 85 GPM series can be used respectively.

Depth of well

Depth of the well can be determined using either a well drillers log or you can just tie a heavy weight to a string lower into the well until it reaches bottom to measure its distance. Also take into consideration, the distance of the well to the house or farm and also its elevation to figure out how much power you are in need of.

Depth of water

The performance of a pump cannot be determined with the depth of the pump but with the water pumping level, which is defined as the standing water level in the well when the pump is operating and the water being pumped out is equal to the water entering the well.

2-wire Vs 3-wire

A 2-wire pump cannot be used for heavy water scale whereas 3-wire pump has the advantage of being equipped with high-starting torque motors. You can choose either a 2-wire or 3-wire pump according to your scale of water requirements.

Construction materials:

It is better to buy a pump that is made with stainless steel, which has superior corrosion resistance to withstand for years of being submerged in your well.

Price of pump:

Do not buy a pump just based on its price as costs to repair a broken pump would be very high.

Before selecting a submersible water well pump, you need to compare the durability of pump with warranty and also the pressure, volume and power that a pump is able to produce and finally the name you can trust.
