You can also speedup Windows 7 shutdown time just by doing some simple registry change. Click on Start and type in regedit and click Enter. Then, Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControl and right-click on WaitToKillServiceTimeOut and change and lower the value. The default value is 12000 (12 seconds) and you can lower this to any number. After completing, click ok and restart PC.

Another very useful way is to remove unwanted Startup programs. There are many programs start automatically with Windows like Java, Acrobat, Quicktime, and iTunes, etc. How to stop them autostarting? Go to Start and enter msconfig,' and click on the startup tab and uncheck the programs that you don't need on startup.
