There is an average of 73 days of rain in Maryland each year. In rain or stormy conditions, it becomes more difficult to see other cars on the road, road signs and even the road at times. The following tips for driving in the rain are provided by Maryland Acura to help you drive safely in wet weather conditions:
Drive slower rain causes roads to become slippery and it will take you longer to stop and if you must stop quickly, you could find yourself sliding as if on ice.
Give greater distance between cars increase the amount of space you leave between your Acura and the car in front of you. Put even greater distance between you and a large truck or bus these vehicles spray a lot of water and can reduce your visibility.
Drive closer to the middle lane puddles tend to pool up in the outside lanes and along the edges of the road. Driving closer to the middle will help you avoid some of the deeper water.
Turn your Acura's headlights on if they don't come on automatically, even if it's not dark. Headlights are not only to help you see to drive, but it makes it easier for other cars to see you in rain, or stormy weather conditions.
Do not drive through moving water if you can't see the ground through it. The water could be deeper than you expect and could sweep your car off the road. Or the water can greatly damage your Acura's engine if it's so deep that it reaches your engine.
Pull over and wait out heavy thunderstorms. The hard rain from these storms makes it impossible to see more than a couple inches in front of you, and it's extremely dangerous to continue driving. The hard rain of these storms usually only lasts a few minutes, and you can safely wait it out on the side of the road.
