Family vacations often include a lengthy road trip that parents dread! It's hard

to keep children occupied in the car, and there is nothing worse than unhappy kids in the enclosed car for hours at a time! Here are some tips to help your kids (and you!) survive a road trip from our Hyundai dealership in Texas:

Surprise kids with something new as soon as their favorite toys or books are no longer keeping your children entertained in the car, surprise them with something you picked up before the trip. You can get a few new items for each child inexpensively by visiting a dollar store. Stock up and hand out one item per child at various stages throughout the trip.

Stop for frequent breaks and meals stop every one or two hours for bathroom breaks and to stretch legs out. If there's a grassy area, you could bring a ball to kick around for a few minutes. Consider eating while outside the car, or pack a cooler with snacks and small meals that can be easily eaten on the go.

Watch movies if your Hyundai doesn't have a built in DVD player, it's not a bad idea to borrow or purchase a portable one for long trips. You can borrow movies from the library or bring along a few from your kids' collection. When children are absorbed in their favorite movies, the time will go by faster for them and give you some traveling peace and quiet! You can get headsets for the DVD player (and they even make extenders which allow multiple headsets to be plugged into a single DVD player as well).

Drive when they're sleeping for very long trips, consider leaving a couple hours before bedtime. By the time the kids are starting to get bored riding in the car, they'll also be tired and ready for bed. Travel in pajamas for comfort, and enjoy a quiet ride while your children snooze in the backseat. Just be sure to get enough sleep yourself before driving through the night.
