If you are purchasing a new stereo, you will need a unit that can plug into a surround sound processor. Since the signal is digital in a surround sound processor, the stereo needs to be able to relay digital signals as well. If your stereo is not digital, then opt for a surround sound processor that converts analogue to digital.
