Then, you may begin narrowing down the list. Luckily, there are surveys the state has conducted on each facility, that are available on the State's Health Department web site. You can actually request to look at a copy of this survey at each facility to read their results. If the facility is not transparent with their results, you should consider skipping that facility as there may be lots of negative connotations in them. There are also other online web sites that would actually give ratings to each facility, so check them out as well.

You should also analyze if you or your loved one will need additional services, like physical or occupational therapy. Most facilities would offer such services, however, it is also possible to acquire outside therapy services as well. If you need specific therapies from a facility, check to see that they do actually offer such services. Try to give the facilities a visit without an appointment so that you can actually make an honest tour throughout the facility, and you may even get to observe some therapies in session. It is worrying if they are just sitting around or watching television like they are bored. There should be other sources of entertainment or recreation that they can do. It is best if you visited during meal times because you will be able to see what type of food are served, and how the staffs actually attend to the residents for feeds. Overall, interactions between staff and residents are extremely important. Observe them or talk to the residents. With the data you have gathered, select the one that gives you the best impression.
