If you don't have much knowledge about how to roast the perfect turkey, here are some useful tips that will help you to roast the perfect turkey on your perfect holiday trip.
Before you start roasting the turkey, you need some important ingredients. You need a defrosted turkey, garlic pepper, paprika, tin foil, salt, 1 stick of butter, a deep sided oven safe pan (for roasting a turkey) and a turkey baster. Preheat your oven to 235 degrees Fahrenheit and also let the butter soften for some time.
Take the turkey out of the package and remove the neck and giblets. You have to do all this very carefully. It is recommended to use a kitchen apron to protect your cloths from liquid dripping from the turkey. Better take it to the sink and remove the neck and giblets. Then, give it a shower. Not a shower that you take, just rinse it with water and keep it in a pan.
Take butter stick which has been softened by now and place it in a bowl. Add 1 teaspoon of salt and 2-3 teaspoons of garlic pepper to the butter. You can use regular pepper and garlic pepper instead.
Now roll up your sleeves and remove any rings if you have. Use your hands to mix the spices in the butter to make a paste. Now what you need to do is to make a pocket on either side of the turkey skin with your hands. Now the pockets have been created, take a paste and thoroughly apply it inside the pockets that you have just made in the turkey skin. Make sure you cover the every inch inside the skin with butter and spices paste. Once the inner part done, take the remaining paste and apply it to the out skin of the turkey properly. Your turkey is now buttered up. Sprinkle a little bit of paprika over the skin. In the end, cover the turkey with a tin foil. Make certain the shinny side of the foil facing outside and the dull side facing inside.
Now you are ready to put your turkey into the oven for final roasting. Following are given the right time to cook the turkey in the oven:
8-12 pounds ? 2.5-3 hours
12-14 pounds ? 3.25-3.5 hours
14-18 pounds ? 3.5-4 hours
18-20 pounds ? 4-4.5 hours
20-24 pounds ? 4.5-5 hours
24-30 pounds ? 5-5.5 hours
It is better to check and baste your turkey while it is still in oven after certain intervals of time. Once the turkey has reached its final cooking time, remove its foil and keep it in oven again for another 15 minutes time so that the skin get brown a little. Wait for 10-15 minutes before cutting the turkey to serve.
