You need a few chemicals to keep your spa clean. Using these chemicals is not that complicated. You can use the test strips available in the market to understand whether the level of chemicals in your spa is right. If you use the chemicals properly your spa will not only last longer but it will protect your family from becoming sick from the bacteria present in the spa water.

How to Use Spa Chemicals?

In order to use spa chemicals you will have to examine the spa water with the right test strip available for checking PH level, sanitizer and calcium. After you fill the spa with water, first use chlorine oxidizer. Then run the filter and wait for an hour. Are you planning to apply biguanide? It is not attuned with bromine or chlorine. So you can just put it in.

If the test confirms more sanitizer is needed, add it. Make sure you choose the specific chlorine that is made for spa. You can also get bromine that can be assorted with chlorine. Minerals or biguanide must be applied with bromine or chlorine.

As soon as the sanitizer episode ends, examine the PH level of the spa water. The level should be between 7.2 and 7.8. If the level is lower than that you can add some PH additive. On the other hand if the level is very high you can use PH reducer.

Testing calcium hardness is equally important. If the level is not perfect the spa water may not be clean. For low level add calcium increaser. But if the level is high you will have to lower the level of alkalinity and PH.

Next comes heavy materials. See whether the spa water has a greenish shade. If yes, it means that your spa contains heavy metals. Using a metal reducer can help you. But make sure you clean the filters as well. Otherwise the metals will be accumulated in the filter and they will be back into the pool water.

You should chance the water of your spa every 60 days and the filter should be cleaned once in a month. Perform the tests in every 2 days to ensure your spa is clean and healthy.
