. In addition, it is usually a good idea to keep the above ground pool as clean as you can for the next season. If you winterize the above ground pool correctly it will save you much work when it is time to reopen the above ground pool in the summertime.

The first thing you need to do when you winterize the above ground pool is ensure that your water chemistry is balanced. You should make sure that your calcium hardness, totality alkalinity, and pH levels are all balanced. If you balance your water chemistry you will protect the surface of the above ground pool from etching and staining. You may also want to add a kit that contains chemicals to the water to help keep it clear and blue.

Never use a floater that has a strong oxidizer, like bromine or chlorine, because the floater may stick on the wall and may bleach and stain the wall, particularly liner made of vinyl. Also never throw bromine or tablets into the above ground pool. . . . . . . .. . .

Water expands when it freezes. This can result in serious damage to the pool's filter system, its plumbing and the above ground pool itself. If you are closing the above ground pool for the winter, you should always protect from freeze damage regardless where you live. . . . . . . . . . . . . ..

After you have drained the pump, turn it on for a second to remove the water from the veins of the impeller. If you can, take the pump indoors to protect it from the winter. If the above ground pool has a chemical feeder, you need to allow the chemicals, bromine and chlorine tablets, run out of the chemical feeder. Then, simply drain the chemical feeder.
