It's a tourist destination that offers something for everyone. Whether you want to laze on the beach, explore historical sites or enjoy lively night life, you can do it all in Spain.

Spain is very geared up towards tourists. Spaniards are friendly and hospitable , which makes it such an attractive destination to visit. With so many visitors, of course you can find modern Spanish hotels, which are well equipped, but lack a little charm and charisma. If you stick to the tried and tested, you'll probably end up in one of the main resorts. Which is OK up to a point.

Parador translates as "stopping place". You can find them all over Spain. What makes them so special is that in most cases they are historic buildings that have been converted into tourist accommodation. They form a chain that runs all the way from Northern Spain down to the Canaries and North Africa.

The idea came from the tourist commissioner back in 1926. The thinking behind the scheme was to firstly attract more visitors to parts of the country tourists had yet to visit and secondly help maintain historic buildings, which were in danger of falling into disrepair.

They rival more mainstream Spanish hotels for facilities, but have charm, character and elegance in abundance. The food served in their restaurants is of the finest order and allows you to experience traditional local cuisine cooked and prepared authentically. Try one next time you visit.
