Tiredness & Fatigue - It's Your Fault, You Know

Constant tiredness is, in my opinion, a silent epidemic. Because we can't measure its direct affect on health and well-being, it isn't truly categorized as a health problem (until it steps into the realm of say, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome). The problem is that constant tiredness can affect greatly your mood, productivity, physical health, and mental health as well because most people who are walking around tired all the time aren't performing at their fullest.

So what causes you to be tired?

There are a lot of factors to be sure, but I want to address a few of the not-so-obvious ones here. For example

Hydration: Hydration is key to maintaining energy levels and alertness because 98% of your blood content is made up of water. If you are not constantly re-hydrating, your blood becomes thicker and your heart is forced to pump harder to move it throughout the body. In the process of diverting more and more energy to the heart, you begin to feel tired and fatigued.

It's really important that you bring a water bottle to work or school, so that getting hydrated isn't something that requires you to go out of your way. Try to drink and then refill the water bottle at least once each day while out and about,

Mood/Mindset: One of the most overlooked factors of tiredness and energy level is, without a doubt, the mental side of it. You've probably noticed throughout your lifetime that certain mood stimulators can override tiredness. Excitement at seeing the kids or dog waiting for you happily when you get home, learning that your favorite meal is for dinner, sexual arousal etc just to name a few.

These activities release endorphins and help suppress serotonin (the chemical in the brain that makes you sleepy) therefore temporarily increasing your energy level and how awake you feel. On the flip side, depressing or mundane activities can actually contribute to tiredness, so it's best to avoid those as much as you can so you can keep on plugging away.

Using Energy Drinks/Supplements: Here's the thing caffeine CAN energize you for short amounts of time, but one major problem is that it drastically speeds up the heart during your "buzz". Once the effect wears off, you are left with a body that is actually MORE exhausted than before because its had to work so hard to keep up with the demands of whatever you put in your body. Avoid caffeine altogether if you can, and if not, limit it.

Most people never realize how much tiredness was affecting their lives until they experience life without it. In order to help you eliminate feelings of tiredness and get more energy I've created 2 easy steps you can follow at Always Feeling Tired.
