Many people only decorate their houses and yards on Christmas, and tend to add to their collections every year to make them more beautiful or comprehensive. There are many different companies that supply outdoor Christmas dcor, so individuals have many different choices when shopping for these items each year. Often, great outdoor Christmas dcor can be found for cheap when the Christmas season is over since retailers want to get rid of their old merchandise before the next year.

Some outdoor Christmas dcor ideas have to do with the types of lights that are used around the house. There are the traditional multi-colored or white Christmas lights that can be strung around the eves of the home or around balconies or banisters to light up the face of the house. Today, there are lights that can be found in a variety of different colors, such as all red or all blue lights as well. In addition, there are lights that will flash on and off in different patterns, or can remain on at all times. There are also lights in outdoor Christmas dcor that are made to go on the bushes in front of homes, being evenly placed in a netting that can be thrown over the top of the bushes to make a beautiful effect with a minimal amount of work. There are also lights that hang down from the eves like icicles, which are pretty on the front of the home.

When looking for outdoor Christmas dcor ideas, there are also scenes that can be created through the use of different figures in the yard. Some people choose to do a crche, or manger scene, in the yard, usually including the figures of Mary, Joseph, a manger with baby Jesus, angels, wise men and a few cows and sheep. There are other scenes that can be created in the yard like Santa's sleigh with some reindeer, whether animated or not. Some individuals will also buy a figure of Santa and place a black garbage bag stuffed with newspaper on his back before hanging him up so he looks like he is climbing into a window of the home. There are many different animated reindeer, snowmen, and inflatable figures that can be used in outdoor Christmas dcor as well, turning a yard into a winter wonderland full of the Christmas spirit, even if there is not any snow to be found.
