To Binge Or Not To Binge, That Is The Question
People, most especially women, will always resort to comfort food when they are sad. To them these foods give them a calm and relaxing feeling. At first, it might seem that you just love to eat food but this could be something much worse than that. You might not realize it but it could very well be binge eating disorder.
Binge eating is not being able to control the food they are eating. They feel that they are always hungry all the time. Though this does not happen every day, the individual binges every now and then and this would usually last for months. You can be sure that you'd feel guilty after consuming lots of food. People who binge are usually obese as they do nothing but eat. Dieting is highly recommended for these people.
Unlike anorexia and bulimia, binge eating is common in males than in females.
What are the symptoms of binge eating?
It doesn't mean that if you like to eat a lot you are considered to be a binge eater. Being a healthy eater is very different from binging. We all know that boys in their adolescent stages tend to eat a lot. To know if one is a binge eater or not, you should observe that he is eating huge amounts at an amazing pace in one sitting. Other signs include eating too much because of the pressure he is feeling, skipping a meal and eating a lot on the next one, and resorting to eating when he is feeling guilt or anger.
What causes someone to binge?
This has just been a newly discovered disorder that why studies are still being to know its causes. A lot of evidence says that binge eating is directly proportional to depression. What researchers want to know is what causes what? Does binging cause an individual to be depressed? Or, does depression make an individual eat a lot?
It's difference from other eating disorders
While binging may have similarities to that of anorexia and bulimia, they are still different from each other. In anorexia, the person is scared of gaining weight because she thinks that she is already fat. In binge eating, after one consumes a lot of food, guilt feeling towards her actions arises. Bulimia is different because it involves purging and forcefully vomiting the food you have eaten. So as far as similarities are concerned the only thing not different about them is the guilt feelings it brings to the individual.
The treatment for binge eating disorder
