Brandon Johnston is only seventeen years old and has it all

. His family is extremely wealthy, he is engaged to get married to the woman of his dreams, and he leads a seemingly storybook life. Theres one little problem though. Carole Johnston is a raving beauty who is married to Ron and mother to her son, Brandon. She has learned only too painfully over the years that wealth does not buy happiness. Carole struggles constantly with the love-hate relationship between her husband and son. The tug of love and hate between the two men is more than Carole can bear at times. Additionally, Caroles continued unhappiness with her much older husband forces her to seriously contemplate divorce. The inner battle with divorce Carole combats begins to take its toll on herone that forces her to take drastic measures resulting in a remarkable outcome.

Liz Johnston is only 7 years old but isnt immune from the drama either. She is for the most part collateral damagecaught up in a family enmeshed with continuous drama and turmoil.

When Brandon is forced to reside in a mental institution, his anger toward his father turns to rage. As his memory returns, Brandons plot to seek revenge against his father radically transforms into something unthinkable. While locked away at the mental institution, Valley Springs, Brandon develops significant relationships with two female patients. He mistakenly falls in love with one, and his friendship with another nearly costs him his life. This temporary diversion is not enough to completely distract Brandon from his ultimate goal: revenge against his patriarchal, hateful, and condescending father.

Yet, Brandon quickly learns that he must keep his feelings mostly to himself, especially from Pat, his beautiful, wealthy fianc. While institutionalized, Brandons primary goal is proving his sanity to Dr. Shock in hopes of securing his release. Pat is next to Brandons side every step of the way.
