, you've had difficulty trying to find the right program that's actually going to fix your computer. As a computer technician, I've had a chance to test many different anti spyware programs, and thought I'd share my experience to let PC customers know which works the best and why.

Lets start by first giving you some background on what exactly spyware is. Spyware is programming that is secretly installed on an individuals computer and collects information without the user knowing. . These programs are created to hide in your PC program files and infiltrate you with pop-up advertisements and junk e-mail. The information that is collected varies from personal information to the surfing patterns of the websites that you have visited. Spyware infections can also cause more serious threats, including the stealing of personal information such as credit card numbers, passwords and financial information. Normally, spyware is passed on to advertisers or other 3rd parties that would be interested in your surfing behaviour.

#3. Lavasoft's Ad Aware - Lavasoft has provided some of the best PC utility software in recent years, and Ad Aware is no exception. From my experience the 2010 installment is the best version yet, and my computer sped up significantly following the initial scan. Another big plus is that the product automatically updates with new detection mechanisms on a regular basis.

#2. Spyware Doctor - PC tools is another vendor that brings first class brand recognition to the table. My techie friends continually rave about PC Tools products and I myself have also been impressed. Spyware Doctor has an impressive scan functionality, first class support, and is very easy to use.

#1. Spyware Cease - As impressed as I was with the two other products I've mentioned, Spyware Cease was a clear winner for me in terms of improving computer performance. My PC literally ran like the first day I purchased it and I continue to find my that computer remains spyware free. Spyware Cease has an incredibly deep scan and the best system diagnosis that I've come across. Another big perk is the new Real-Time Guard which includes the program informing you by displaying a popup on the bottom right of the screen, whenever any program attempts to modify registry.
