Tokyo's Take On India

Being in a foreign country not only makes one homesick but also whets the appetite for home cooked meals

. Thus for Indians living in Japan, many opt to cook at home for the authentic Indian dish but nowadays, there are many Indian restaurants not only for South Asians but even for Japanese seeking a slice of true Indian cooking right in the Land of the Rising Sun.

Aside from the homey decor and the vegetarian fare, another plus factor that has made Indian restaurants popular is the "eat all you can" policy of these restaurants especially during lunch hours. Surprisingly, one can have this buffet style dining at a budget, with some prices at only 1000 yen for a full course meal.

Indian Spice Magic Aianta. One of the most prominent Indian restaurants in Tokyo and has been in operation since 1957. Founded by Jaya Murti, the restaurant is a veritable sample of authentic Indian eating and dining. It is open from 10 am to 2 am and is locate conveniently in the Nibancho District of Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo.

Moti. This popular Indian restaurant focuses on Northern Indian cuisine and opened its doors back in 1978. The doors are open from lunchtime until 11 pm during weekdays, Sundays and holidays.

Tandoor. This is another famed Indian restaurant in Tokyo specializing in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian servings. The options can be seen from its expansive menu that covers many of the cooking styles of India.

Ganges. Names after the holiest river in India, this Indian restaurant is open from 11 am to 10 pm. One of the staples is Biryani and Curry and is priced quite reasonably. Quite low-key but one of the best ones in the country.

The Taj. Another favorite Indian habitue and offers a multitude of cooking styles from South Indian to North Indian. It also offers New Delhi sweets and other goodies from back home. The restaurant operates from 1130 am to 2 pm and then from 5:30 to 10 pm at night.

So, instead of dining again on noodles or some pseudo Indian dish one tried to imitate from back home, it would be best to get a fulfilling meal in one of the aforementioned restaurants situated in and around Tokyo. Surely for the low and reasonable costs, your taste buds would be singing praises and visions of home can only dance in your mind when dining out in these Indian restaurants in Tokyo, Japan.
