Tolo, Greece - Modern Tourism or Ancient History?

After the end of the Greek Revolution, a lot of refugees from Crete migrated to Tolo

and the mid 20th century saw the rise of the town as an important place for tourists due to the tremendous beauty of the area. The tourism industry in the town grew rapidly, especially in the peak summer seasons, with the Greeks offering great hospitality to visiting tourists from many countries. Tolo is also also an important transit destination because of the accessibility to notable Greek archaeological sites.

Among the major sight-seeing places in Tolo is a monument building called Zoodhohos Pigi established in 1688 in the form of a church and the remains of the fort on the island of Daskaleio alongside the bay of Tolon.

The Tolo Beach is probably the best beach in the area, boasting cool and crystal clear water with golden sand along the length of it's coast. Popular for swimming and sunbathing, the beach is close to the main town with easy access between the two.

Tolo is believed to be one of the busiest Greek tourist destinations, attracting many people from the northern part of Europe and traffic can be very busy during the summer season.

The local people are extremely friendly in nature and greet the tourists with a lot of warmth. Fishing is still a large part of local economy and, on the whole, Tolo has retained its historical importance and traditional Greek charm giving all nationalities a unique place to visit.
