While most of us give some attention to our teeth inside our mouths
, how many of us take a good look at the tongue. We use the tongue for many activities like slurping on an ice cream, singing our favorite songs, to lick not to forget talking and tasting all the yummy food. Without a tongue we will not be able to do all these things let alone even utter a single word. Its time we looked in the mirror, opened our mouths and took a good look at our tongues.
The tongue is made up of a group of muscle which enables the tongue to perform various jobs. Your tongue can be stretched, rolled and even folded to touch the palate. It is the front part of the tongue which is useful for eating and talking. It is very flexible. Along with the teeth it performs the job of helping you chew and move the food in your mouth. With the help of the tongue, the food is pushed back so it can be ground well before it is swallowed.
The color of the tongue is important and it can state your health condition. If it is pink then you are in the best of health. Taste buds and papillae are found covering the upper surface of the tongue. It is the taste buds that help you differentiate the various flavors. The tongue is always surrounded by saliva to keep moist. The saliva makes it easier to soften the food. The tongue is very sensitive and is powered by nerves and blood vessels.
