I remember the day we found our home. As soon as we saw it, we knew this was the one for us!!

So where do you begin when trying to find the right home or even the right location for you and your family?

What's the best city to move to... Oshawa, Courtice, Brooklin, Ajax or Whitby?

I've lived in the Durham region most of my life including Courtice, Oshawa and Ajax. I lived in the Toronto area for a number of years as well and absolutely loved it. Great shopping, tons and tons of restaurants to choose from and the prices of goods were competitive due to the competition.

The big down fall I would have to say..... and this is my own personal view, was the price of homes. I was amazed by what you could get by just moving to the outskirts of Toronto. By moving to Ajax I saved over $50,000 on the same square footage home and all I had to do was to jump on the Highway I was back in the city in less than 15 minutes.

What it boils down to is your priorities.

By listing your priorities before looking for your home it will make things so much easier when you start.

Here are the major factors I used before we knew where we wanted to live;

1. Do you have children and what type of school do you want them in

2. Do you have pets and require a large backyard or are taking them to the park fine

3. Do you require quite surroundings or prefer the hustle and bustle of a major city

4. Is having shopping close by a necessity to you

5. Do you need to be close to work or is the commute something you can live with

6. Do you have a large family and require additional living space for example 4 bedrooms instead of 3

7. When you're tired of cooking are you fine with going to a friends or a local chain restaurant

8. Do you need to be close to friends and family or do they drive you up the wall

9. Do you need to be close to the 401

10. Do you like a newer home or prefer a mature neighbourhood

Once you've gone through these questions rank them by importance and you'll be amazed as to how easy and quickly it is to finding you and your families dream home.
