And if youre backpacking in Sydney, you'll find it's also a very cheap city to find things to do in. There are plenty of beaches accessible by public transport, tours available for less than $20 ... and of course, plenty of happy hours to check out! Today we have a look at the most unique nightclubs for backpackers in Sydney.
1. ARQ
ARQ is the 'superclub' in Sydney - one of the must-do's for all visitors. The music is harder upstairs, with plenty of commercial tunes being played downstairs. It is known as a gay club, but attracts a real mix of clubbers. The fish tank and the lounges are two of the things most backpackers in Sydney rave about!
2.Civic Hotel
The Civic Hotel is everything all in one - a scrummy Mediterranean restaurant upstairs, a relaxed pub in the middle, and a dance club down below. The music is a real mix, much more varied than at ARQ which mostly plays house, trance and other electronica. You'll get a bit of jazz, a bit of blues, a few DJ-spun tunes, as well as traditional clubbing music, and the crowd is equally varied, from young professionals to backpackers to families in the restaurant.
3.Jackson's on George
Similar to the Civic Hotel, Jackson's on George is an eatery, pub and club all in one multi-level space. There is a bigger variety of things to do here when youre just hanging out - there are weekly pool competitions, a Caribbean night and a psychic to be amused by.
4.Soho Bar and Lounge
Soho Bar and Lounge is another of the many Art Deco style clubs and pubs in the city. This one is focused on drinking and dancing, just like a real nightclub should be, and has podiums as well as a larger dance floor, and is known as a celebrity haunt - Kylie Minogue and Pierce Brosnan have both been spotted here.
5.Basement
Goin' down, down, down for the best jazz in the city at the Basement. More of a live music venue than a nightclub, the Basement is still definitely one of the top hangouts for backpackers in Sydney.
6.Candy's Apartment
From Candy's Apartment's crude beginnings as a sewer pit in the 1880s (allegedly!) it has certainly undergone a stunning transformation. The VIP room here is another frequent celeb hangout, and the whole place is ultra-trendy. It's easily accessible by train to King's Cross.
7.Greenwood Hotel
If you're after more of a true 'nightclub' experience, come to the Greenwood Hotel on Thursday when DJs spin house tunes and music is a little more recent. It's also a great weekday hangout, with four bars, a restaurant, and a wide variety of local bands playing.
8.Lansdowne Hotel
The Lansdowne is for drinking and dancing, but with one crucial difference from the clubbish standard - the music is usually live instead of computerised. Grab a meal at the Lansdowne to help soak up your beers - the bistro has fare from just $6. You can get here and home to your hostel in Sydney by bus along Parramatta Road.
9.Grand Pacific Blue Room
Come late in the week for DJs and beat-focused toonz there is also a restaurant serving contemporary Australian cuisine with plenty of divine seafood - main courses are very respectably priced at around $20.
10. Mars Lounge
Mars Lounge has been voted into the top 100 bars in the entire WORLD (!) by readers of worldsbestbars.com. Mars Lounge has a definite personality of its own, favouring Latino music and delicious cocktails over live music and beer.
