1. Communication Skills: You need to be able to get along with the veterinarian you're working for as well as all the pet owners who come into the office, many of whom may be under a great deal of stress. You will need to explain medications and dosages to pet owners, etc.

2. Concern for Animals: This should be relatively obvious you need to like animals and be concerned for their wellbeing to succeed in this career. You will work with many different kinds of animals, so if you only like dogs but can't stand cats, for example, this career is probably not for you.

3. Cooperation: It is important that you're able to work with a team, including having positive interactions with the veterinarian (boss) and other veterinary technicians and office assistants (teammates).

4. Endurance: As a veterinary technician you must be able to work long hours, often on your feet.
