Traditions

Eve of Saint John's: The 23rd of June see's the summer solstice which is celebrated with big bonfires and fireworks. People eat the traditional "coca de Sant Joan" which is are pastries.

La Merc festival: A traditional festival for Barcelona's patron saint on the 24th of September. Different types of activities are organized for all ages. The main event been the "correfoc" (fire breathing dragons), and the music show which consists of fireworks and classical music.

Sardanas: Sardanas is a traditional Catalan dance, where people meet on Sundays to dance in front of the cathedral.

Castellers: The famous "castells" are the impressive human towers, which rise up to 9 floors high. Originally from Tarragona, they can be seen in some festivals in Barcelona, including the Merc.

Football

The Barcelona football team have long been a top players in the sport. With fans from all over the World it is a good opportunity to go see them in action at the "Camp Nou" stadium which can seat a staggering 96,336 people.

Shopping

All cities have a good choice of shopping and Barcelona is no exception. An extremely practical city to take to the shops as most is concentrated in the center and the historical part of the city. Barcelona offers around 35,000 shops in total.

Cuisine

Do not expect your bread to come with butter. In Barcelona they rub the bread with tomato, olive oil, garlic and a pinch of salt. It is really tasty

Climate

The average annual temperature is 20C during the day and 11C at night. Winters in Barcelona are mild. December, January and February are the coldest months, with average temperatures around 14C during the day and 5C at night. From May to October enjoy the heat. July and August are the warmest months, with average temperatures around 2728C during the day and 20C at night.

Antoni Gaudi
