Top 5 Kitchen Appliances of the Future
It's been projected that the world population will likely increase by 2.5 billion people by 2050, bringing the total of human inhabitants up from the current 6.7 billion to a shocking total of 9.2 billion. This period of our civilization will see 74 percent of the world's population crammed into urban settlements struggling and gagging for space. With this in mind, you can well imagine that the in style' of the time will be minimisation and space conservation/efficiency. Considering this we say gone are the current versions of island cooker hoods and gas appliances' welcome to the kitchen of the future as visualized by the student designers of the 2010 competition, Electrolux Design Lab.
1: Bio Robot Refrigerator by Yuriy Dmitriev
The young forward thinking designer visualised a futuristic refrigerator which makes use of cooled biopolymer gel that is neither adhesive nor olfactorily offensive. Your fridge items are suspended within this gel allowing one to do away with shelves or the need for oversized fridge units.
2: Zephyr Integrated Laundry System by Dulyawat Wongnawa
This appears to a compressed storage unit which does your laundry by making use of a proposed Airwash' technology meaning that it gets the stains out with self generated ozone and removes bacteria as well as odours. It also features a steam session to remove the wrinkles. Not knowing much about negative ions myself, I can only say that it sounds environmentally nifty.
3: MESO- Food Injection by Bogdan IonitaThis scary little device could be considered more a medical appliance rather than a kitchen one, but it seemed related to me. Dear Bogdan designed this torturous device to detect nutrient deficiencies in your body and inject those required into your bloodstream directly, meaning that you can skip out that awesome chocolate bar and everything really, making this a sad day indeed.
4: Freedge The Inside-Out Fridge by Matthew McNaughtonNot much to say on this item but its basic concept is that the fridge unit is actually stored within a wall panel, meaning that you have more room to manoeuvre when you're not involved in the immediate action of removing an item from your fridge (or Freedge in this case), I think that anyone can get behind that idea.
5: Clean Closet All in One Laundry Concept by Michael EdeniusWhat would you give to have your closet clean your clothes for you while your items were simply hanging up? Personally a system which pressed and cleaned, and didn't require me to even do anything besides take what I want from it and replace it when I was done with it, would be worth its weight in gold.
It may have been better to have done something about the irresponsible population explosion, but if you can't solve the problem you may as well deal with the symptoms. So there we have it, home and kitchen appliances of the future!
