Persian gardens have got global reputation since long time ago. People have heard about them from some famous poets like Saadi and Hafez. 1. Fin Garden in Kashan


The water flowing in this garden has been running for almost 7000 years from a headspring nearby. It has been first planned by Safavid kings who went hunting at Karkas mountains and needed a resort to stay in and enjoy. Later under Qajars, some annexations were made to the structures inside the garden.

The assassination of one of the most popular politicians in Iranian history occurred at this garden: The grand vizier of Nasereddin Shah was killed by the royal order of the king at the bathhouse of this garden.

2. Dolatabad Garden in Yazd

This Persian garden used to be the house of Yazd governor in 18th century. The mansion inside this walled garden is a unique octagonal-plan mansion with colorful stain glasses within sash window panes. In addition to a long pool in front of the building, there are some small ones inside the building and a room accommodating a small pool underneath the wind catcher, which is still the largest in the city.

3. Shahzadeh Garden in Mahan

Mahan is 35 km outside Kerman on the road to Bam and Zahedan. This small town has got one of the most beautiful Persian gardens in it called Shahzadeh (prince or princes) Garden. It was built by Qajar rulers so that the courtiers could enjoy the serenity and coolness of its atmosphere in hot summer days at the edge of desert. The water cascades in front of the mansion are unique.

4. House of Qavam (Narenjestan) in Shiraz


Narenjestan (orangery garden) of Qavam used to be the court of the supreme judge of Shiraz in 19th century. The architecture of the building inside it is a typical example of its own era. Due to the dominant presence of orange trees, it is known as Narenjestan. The well-known American expert in Iranian studies, Professor Pope, had his office in this building for almost six years.

5. Chehel Sotun Palace in Isfahan

Shah Abbas 2nd, the Safavid king, had ordered a palace to be built for his administration in Isfahan while he was ruling there. Although some European influence could be seen in the mural paintings and garden planning, the prevailing plan is of Persian heritage. The huge pool in front of the palace is a distinguishable element in the walled garden in which the structure has been built.
