One of the worst things that a woman can do to herself is to pursue a guy who just doesn't seem to be ready to commit to a long term relationship

. Of course, that is assuming that you want to find a guy who wants to be in that kind of relationship with you. While you may not totally get why it is that he doesn't seem to want to make that leap and end up in a committed relationship, you should realize that trying to force him to feel that way is not always going to work out the way that you want it to.

Here are my top 5 reasons why a guy refuses to do the commitment thing:

1) He still believes that the grass is greener on the other side.

This can be a pretty common reason why some guys are afraid to end up with just one woman. They seem to always feel like the grass is greener, or that there is a better woman in the future. That may hurt a little to think that a guy could feel that way, but there are some who'll never commit to a woman just because they are afraid that they might miss out on a "better" option down the road.

2) He'd rather hang out with friends than his girlfriend.

Some guys are also still stuck in that phase where they just want to spend most of their free time with their guy friends and having a long term relationship would get in the way of that. This is one that they can grow out of, but they kind of have to do it when they want to and not when a woman tells them that they should want to.

3) He's still too attached to his mom.

Yes, there are guys who are grown up on one hand, but still act like little boys on the other hand. And one of the things that you might have to deal with, is that you are dating a guy who still is too attached to his mom. The very thought of him growing up and getting away from that is too frightening, so he's not really ready to be in a long term relationship.

4) Work is his life.

Another common reason for a man to be unable to do a long term relationship is that he is just too involved with his work and that is what takes precedence in his life. Some guys seem to think that "all work and no play" really is the way to be. Trying to force a guy like this to commit to you can be almost impossible, because they can always rationalize why their work life is more important than just about anything else.

5) He's been cheated on and he's afraid.

When some men get cheated on, their reaction is to never want to get hurt like that again. One of the ways that they can "guarantee" that will never happen is if they just refuse to give their heart to another woman. Of course, that will make it hard to get a commitment out of him if he feels that way. This is a wound that usually heals with time, but it is something that you need to be aware of.
