Top 5 Snoring Reasons
Do you or your partner have snoring problems? Snoring can be very frustrating for both of you
, so you are probably eager to deal with the problem. Know what the reasons are for your snoring is the first step. Here are the top five reasons why you may be snoring.
Hereditary factors: One of the top causes for snoring can be traced back to heredity. A major cause for snoring is a narrow throat. Unfortunately, if your parents or even somebody in your family line passed this gene on to you, you may be more prone to snoring.
Weight gain: Another factor which can cause snoring problems is becoming overweight. When you gain weight, fatty tissues can form beneath the skin of your neck. When fat accumulates on your neck, it causes your throat to become smaller, which constricts air flow and results in snoring.
Gender: Males are generally born with narrower air passages, which is the reason why more men tend to have this problem than women.
Aging: There are two reasons why snoring problems can arise as we age. We start losing muscle tone in our throats and our throats get narrower with age. Add these two factors together and you've got a sure fire snoring problem in your hands.
Medications: You may not realise it but some of the medication that you're taking could be causing your snoring. Anti-histamines, sleeping pills and other relaxants tend to relax the muscles on the mouth and throat which leads to snoring. Check the labels of the medication or ask your physician about any of the medications you are taking in order to see whether any of them are the culprit.
Aside from the snoring reasons mentioned above, there are other issues that might be causing the problem, including allergies, the positioning of your head when sleeping, alcohol and medical issues.
If you can figure out which of these are applicable to you, this will narrow down the possible reasons for your snoring and help you to pinpoint the cause of your problem. If you still cannot stop your snoring, there are a variety of snoring remedies available to help you solve the problem. It is also worth speaking to your GP to rule out anything more serious.
