Top 7 Money Related Sites
I admit I'm a gigantic money nerd, so I'm constantly seeking out great resources that could help people maximize their money
. With that end in mind, I've pinpointed 7 top sites that I trust implicitly when it comes to making more of the money you make. Here they are in no particular order:
www.nerdwallet.com
This is a great site for determining if you're getting the most you possibly can out of your rewards card. So many laws have changed regarding credit card regulation that it's nearly impossible to know if you are being charged fees for something you didn't know about. With nerdwallet in your backpocket (horrible pun acknowledged...) you can now rest assured that the card is doing as much for you as you are for it.
www.mint.com
I love everything mint. I love peppermints, mint juleps, the US Mint. Anything mint-related and I get along really well. (I even love mint flavored Tums.) So why wouldn't I love a site called mint.com? This site is great if you've ever missed a credit card minimum payment or you simply like knowing when checks clear your account. They'll even give you a daily balance update on your accounts. It's simple, it's intuitive. Trust me, you'll love it as much as I love a good peppermint mocha at Christmastime.
www.diyornot.com
I'm going to level with you... hammers and I don't get along. Quite frankly, not many of the tools I own like me very much. So, when the Mrs. comes calling with a bathroom tile project or wanting to refinish the fireplace, I first go to diyornot.com to prove to her me doing it is a BAD financial idea. If you are a great DIY-er, then knock yourself silly... that's usually what happens when I pick up a hammer.
www.linkedin.com
This may not seem like a money-related site, but hang with me here. The average user on Facebook is 26 years old and makes under $40,000 a year. The average user on LinkedIn is in their 40's and is grossing well over 6 figures. I know which gang I'd rather hang with. If you're looking to make a little more dough, look no further than LinkedIn. If you're wanting to network with people in a certain position or within a certain industry, LinkedIn can make it happen. You'll be amazed how few levels there are between you and your dream job.
www.itunesu.com
Again, not exactly a financial powerhouse site, but if you would like to "skill-up" as the Boomers are saying, head first to itunesu. It's more like a destination within itunes than it is it's own website. It's kick ass, nonetheless.
www.coupons.com
I married the Coupon Queen 10 years ago and love her to death for it. She literally gets physically excited by saving money and I get physically excited by seeing her physically excited. (Don't let that sound weird...) If you've carved the budget down to the nubbins and there isn't much more room to go, check out coupons.com before you go shopping. My CQ will save upwards of $20 every trip to the grocery store. I'm talking 20% or more each time she goes. It's a beautiful thing.
www.smartypig.com
The hometown hero. SmartyPig was started by two radically awesome dudes from Des Moines, Iowa. They're making saving money sexy with a big pink pig. And, they're paying some of the highest interest rates on the internet. If you're saving money for something special, just plug it into your SmartyPig account and the site will tell you how much you need to save and for how long to hit your goal.
So, there are my 7. Take some time and play around on all of these. It will keep you from blowing money on auction sites and online games. Yeah, I'm talking to you....
