1) Honda Jazz: You're probably not surprised that a Japanese supermini has made it into the top five list. The little Honda Jazz is ideal for nipping through the town, manoeuvring into tight spaces and for embarking on your weekly shopping trips. The Honda Jazz has a particularly strong engine which means that it can stand the test of time. It's built from solid materials so it's durable and shouldn't break! It may not be the most attractive car on this list in terms of looks, but it is the most reliable.

2) Toyota Yaris: Another little Japanese hatchback has made it into the top five list. This is another sturdy car that doesn't possess the most attractive looks - but looks aren't going to guarantee you a safe drive. The Yaris is relatively cheap to run as well which could end up saving you valuable money at the pumps.

3) Ford Fiesta: You may or may not be surprised that the stylish Ford Fiesta has made the top five. Fords always used to be associated with being affordable, but not very reliable - buy hey, parts were cheap so it didn't really matter anyway. However, it seems as though now they have managed to combine reliability with an affordable price tag. Strangely, the Fiesta seems to have it all - looks, comfort, performance, and practicality - you can't really fault it, which is why this funky hatchback has won so many awards this month.

4) Volkswagen Lupo: Now, the Volkswagen Lupo may be small - but it sure is reliable. This car is ideal for nipping through the city, it will be a dream to park and is nippy enough to get through the lights. Volkswagens have long been associated with reliability so it's not really a surprise that the Lupo has made this list. The only downside to this little hatchback - it's size, it may be a little too small to cope with a car full of adults.

5) Citroen C3: Citroens aren't usually associated with high-reliability, but the C3 has made it onto this list. The C3 has been well-built, and it has distinctive looks - so will set you apart from the crowd. However, one of the biggest downfall with this car is price depreciation. The C3 loses its value rather quickly and therefore if you're looking to buy one it may best to buy used.
