1.Haridwar, Uttarakhand
Haridwar is one of the sacred Hindu Pilgrimages in India, and is named as 'Gateway to God'. Legend has it that one can attain moksha or nirvana just by the touch of river Ganges, one of the most revered holy rivers of country. Herein Kumbh Mela, a huge spiritual fair is also held every year. The village of Haridwar is considered to be blessed by the trinity Gods that is to say Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma. Among all the other places in Haridwar, three are significant which hold greatest attention from the visitors, they are-
Chandi Devi Temple- Acclaimed as one of the Shaktipeeths of North India, this place is said to have the power to fulfill the wishes of devotees; (key is- if you have got a pure heart in your bosom). It is situated on the top of Neel Parvat.
Daksha Mahadev Temple- One of the most ancient temples of Lord Shiva, where as per legends, Goddess Sati's father Daksha Prajapati performed a yagna, a holy ritual, but did not invite Lord Shiva, his son-in-law and thus heralded havoc. It is situated in Kankhal, 4km away from main township of Haridwar.
Har Ki Pauri Haridwar- Most famous and visited ghat on the banks of the river Ganges, which is believed to be a sacred place where as per legend, Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu, two great Hindu Gods, appeared in the Vedic era.
2.The Dakshineshwar Kali Temple, West Bengal
Situated on the eastern bank of the Hooghly River, this Hindu temple is in Dakshineswar near Kolkata. The temple is devoted to Goddess Kali, who as per Hindu mythology is considered as Goddess of destruction of evil. There are twelve holy Sivalingas known as Jyotir-Lingas in this temple, which are known as manifestations of Shiva in the form of emblems representing light.
3.Dussera Festival, Mysore, Karnataka
Mysore known as the cultural capital of Karnataka, is particularly famous for the Dussera festival. According to Hindu mythology the festival celebrates and commemorates the victory of Goddess Chamundeshwari after she slayed demon Mahishasura. The event represents triumph of good over evil. The festival is celebrated in the month of September or October.
4.Ganesha Utsav, Mumbai, Maharashtra
The holiest and most exuberant and vibrant festival of Mumbai, which is celebrated by worshipping Ganesha followed with pompous procession. Ganesha, is the elephant-headed Hindu God of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune. Son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, he is worshipped for nine days, during August and September.
5.The Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh
The historic city of Khajuraho is situated in the woody plains of Bundelkhand region in Madhya Pradesh. The temples there display a breathtaking blend of architectural excellence and sculptural sheerness.
