Based on a survey conducted recently by Australian labor agencies among direct employers and HR professionals from different industry categories such as manufacturing, trade, IT, and finance, 21% of respondents foresee worse employment prospects or opportunities for job growth for 2010. Compare this with the job outlook predicted for 2009 where only 8% who responded said it would be worse, a jump of 13%. From the same survey however, 42% expect prospects to get better. Consistent with the worldwide economic downturn and recession, unemployment rate either continues to rise a little bit or is tapering.

As for the top 20 Vacancies as needed by employers for the first quarter of 2010 are Domestic Helpers; Nursing; IT Specialists; Salesladies; Sales Clerks; Call Center Agents; Medical Representatives; Baggers; Warehousemen; Forklift operators; Painters/Carpenters; Mechanical Engineers; Diesel Engine Mechanics; Computer Encoders; Customer Service; Tile Setters; Accounting; Occupational Therapists; Account Executives; Civil Engineers.

It can be noted that workers with in-demand skills or who are in high-growth fields may have better career prospects. Professionals in the above-mentioned top 18 or top 20 wanted lists are also consistent top hiring choices among industries in both 2008 and 2009 surveys.
