Top Off-season Basketball Conditioning Drill Secrets
Are you staying in shape by practicing basketball off-season drills
? If you're not, then dont be surprised if you end up warming the bench instead of leading your basketball team to victory.
The off-season is the perfect time to work on your basketball conditioning, increasing your vertical jump and improving your speed and endurance. All top basketball players can play hard through out the game and still have the stamina and energy to take that last second shot to win the game. Off season conditioning drills will make you a better, faster and quicker basketball player.
Running
The best way to improve your game stamina is by running and doing cardio workouts in the off-season. You want to run on most days, but be willing to alter your workouts. Do long runs and sprint workouts on different days to change it up. Also work on running stairs or hills to build up your leg strength as well as your stamina.
Jump Rope
Jump rope is not just for the playground. Jumping rope is a great exercise that builds your speed, agiliy and endurance while helping to add extra inches to your vertical jump. Thes jump rope workouts will build coordination, timing, agility, quickness and hand-eye coordination. A jump rope is one of the best pieces of basketball conditioning equipment that you can own.
Ball Bounce Basketball Drills
A good exercise to perform to work on your vertical jump is ball jumps because it builds the muscles up in your legs. Stand with your feet together on one side of the basketball and jump sideways, back and forth over the ball as fast as you can. The faster that you go, the more you are doing for your speed endurance. Be careful not to trip over the ball. Continue this for 30 seconds and count how many jumps that you complete so you can aim to beat that number everyday.
Side Catch Basketball Drills
Another great basketball conditioning exercise to improve your upper body endurance as well as eye-hand coordination and hand speed is the side catch drill. Start with holding the basketball with both hands between your legs. One arm will be in front of your body and the other arm will be behind your body. Release the ball and switch your hands in the opposite direction and try to catch the ball before it hits the floor.
Run Stadium Stairs
If you want to really train hard during the off-season to increase your vertical jump and improve your basketball conditioning and endurance; hit the bleachers and run the stairs (or hills). Work on exploding up the stairs with each step. This strong effort will give you that important explosive first step on the basketball court to get you by any defender.
