Top Selling Shoe Styles
Any serious shoe fashionista will tell you that shoes do more than simply complement an outfit they make an outfit
. From boots to pumps, sandals to stilettos the shoe you choose to wear with your outfit will ultimately affect the silhouette of your frame, the drape of your skirt or pants and also the overall style of the clothing you are wearing.
Top selling shoe styles over the past year or so tend to be shoes that can be worn with a number of outfits. Gone are the days when
boots were only teamed with long jeans and worn in winter and stiletto shoes were hidden at the back of a closet until that yearly cocktail party. Today, you only have to browse the pages of any fashion magazine to see how those old concepts have been turned on their heads: Victoria Beckham in towering stilettos and skinny jeans; Rihanna in Stella McCartney thigh high, skin tight leather boots with a mini skirt; Kate Moss in high heeled sandals and flared white jeans and Lady Gaga in her rocket high ankle booties worn with, well, whatever she fancied on the day.
Today shoe fashion is all about three things, fun, function and frivolity. A good example of this is this summer's rebirth of the high heeled wedge sandal. The high heeled wedge is a fantastic alternative for those who love sky scraper heels but lack the confidence to wear skinny, gravity defying stiletto heels. The wedge heel is wider and holds the support of the entire foot, allowing for comfort while still allowing the wearer the beauty of the leg extending high heel.
The wedged heel sandal is also an ideal choice for summer, allowing the wearer to remain cool-footed in open, strappy sandals while adding a touch of glamour to their everyday summer wardrobe.
Another popular choice this year is the boot, with several new styles of boot making an appearance for the first time in decades. The revival of the dark goth style wardrobe has seen chunky soled boots now being worn with everything from long heavy Victorian style dresses to short light floaty summer frocks.
Knee high
womens boots have also made a surprising comeback and are no longer associated solely with pretty women standing on street corners waiting for Richard Gere to rock up in a sailor's uniform. Stella McCartney's black leather fetish thigh high boots have been seen adorning the legs of Victoria Beckham, Madonna and Rihanna to name just a few celebrities.
Clearly, fashion doesn't take itself quite as seriously as it has done in previous decades and that's never going to be a bad thing. It's fun, it's functional and it's frivolous and long may it be that way.
